Review of Beside Bethesda by Joni Eareckson Tada

Beside Bethesda by Joni Eareckson Tada

This book is wonderful!  It was nourishment to my spiritual soul!  I could simply not put this book down.  Although the book is designed as a 31 day devotional series I found myself reading at times between 5 and 10 sets a day.  The devotionals were short and to the point and tied directly back to the Bible which was wonderful.  I enjoyed reading the journey of the authors struggle with being a quadriplegic and her being distressed very frustrated at times with the situation of her physical body.  It was a book filled with hope for in which anyone can relate when dealing with the stresses of life no matter what their physical situation.  Overcoming obstacles of the mind and body to be at peace with the place in which the Lord has brought you.  It is hard for me to sum up what exactly was my favorite part of this book because it was so rich and filled with such wonderful inspirational messages.  After the first few pages I ran to the drawer to grab a highlighter so that I could highlight the parts of this book that were the most profound to me....I had never done that with any book before.  This is definitely a book that I will keep for my own personal collection because I know that it will be a great reference in the future for strength and hope during trials of my life.   Thank you to Tyndale Publishing for giving me this book in exchange for an honest review.

Review of Tomorrow's Sun by Becky Melby

Tomorrow's Sun (Lost Sanctuary #1)

by
Emily Foster won’t allow herself to move on until she earns enough money to make
restitution for the accident that stole a young girl’s dreams. Flipping houses sounds like the fast track to her goal, but when her first project turns out to be a stop on the Underground Railroad, Emily finds
herself drawn to, but at odds with, the contractor she hires. Jake Braden needs to focus on gaining guardianship of his late sister’s twins, but the story of lost love uncovered in Emily’s house sets the
stage for what might become his own lost love.
(Goodreads.com)

This book was non-stop twists and turns the plot just seemed to get thicker and thicker as the story unfolded.  The story contained flashes into the past of Emily and the individuals that previously owned the home and participated in the Underground Railroad.  Emily is a character that is well developed and has a great deal of depth.  I felt really a part of the book like I was sitting in the room watching the story unfold.  I was drawn to Jake's character very quickly and found his character was
also greatly developed.  It was evident that this author took time in developing these characters which I love.  Picking the center of the story to be around an old historical home was also very appealing to me as I have an affinity to old historic homes that tell stories about the people who lived there previously.  I look forward to reading more from this author.

Long Time Coming by Vanessa Lewis

Long Time Coming by Vanessa Lewis

Deidre Clark-Morris is a faithful Christian who has everything she could dream of, except the children her heart longs for. Kenisha Smalls has lived in poverty all her life. She has three children by three different men and has just been diagnosed with inoperable cancer. While the meeting between these two women appears accidental, it becomes their catalyst of hope. Neither woman expects the blessing that God has in store for her. While Deidre guides Kenisha on the path to eternal life with Jesus Christ, Kenisha teaches Deidre how to stand strong against the storms of life.
(Goodreads.com)

This book was another emotional rollercoaster and the pain of two women with two very different lives experiencing two very different things that come together  in a way that is beautiful.  My heart was broken for both the main characters (Deidre and Kenisha) but in two very different ways.  Eventhough Kenisha lived in poverty she took very good care of her children and wanted them to have a better life.  Which is very admirable and is definitely worth mentioning, she knew that life was not to be found with her family and their biological dads were rarely if ever in the picture therefore, they were not dependable.
The end of the book is gripping in its descriptions and quite honestly gave me chills while reading it, the description was so vivid in my minds eye.
This author is definitely worth trying if you are unfamiliar with her work, she has a unique writing style that pulls you into the story and surrounds you with gripping character development almost as if you personally know these characters.  I look forward to reading more of her works.

Review of Until Forever by Darlene Shortridge

Description of Until Forever by Darlene Shortridge

It was something she would never forgive herself for…

It wasn’t until lunchtime that Jessi remembered to call home. No answer.
She tried calling several times while she ate her lunch. Still no
answer. She closed her eyes and rested her arms and head on her desk.
She breathed deeply, wishing she had remembered to call earlier.

Until Forever is a story of a young family that is torn apart by the
devastating effects of alcoholism. Can healing take place in a
relationship when an unforgivable act is committed? Will Jessi's pain
and Mark's guilt keep them apart forever, or will unforeseen
circumstances bind them together?

(via Goodreads)

This was a book filled with emotional ups and downs.  This book accurately
reflects the way addiction can rip a family apart and the power in
forgiveness.  Forgiveness will set you free from your past and help you
move on to start a new future one that can be open and abundantly
blessed by the power of forgiveness.  This book is an example of how no
matter how much time passes forgiving someone for their trespasses sets
you free.

Blessings until next time...L

slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to
one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you."

The Color of Heaven by Julianne MacLean

Publisher Description

"Sophie Duncan is a successful columnist whose world falls apart after her daughter's unexpected illness and her husband's shocking affair. When it seems nothing else could possibly go wrong, her car skids off an icy road and plunges into a frozen lake. There, in the cold, dark depths of the water, Sophie experiences something profound and extraordinary--something that unlocks the secrets from her past, and teaches her what it means to truly live"

This book is one of my favorites so far, I felt the book was well written the characters were well defined and had depth.  It was a story of forgiveness and finding your way when your world is crumbling around you.  I cried during this book which is very rare for me, with Megan's diagnosis.  The first night I started this book I read almost 200 pages, on my Nook the book was a little over 400 pages.  I simply hung on every word.  I thought the author did an outstanding job in bringing the characters to life and making them realistic.  Showing the true meaning of triumph over tragedy.

I was fortunate enough to find this book for FREE during one Barnes and Nobles Free Book Fridays.

Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers

Description

California’s gold country, 1850. A time when men sold their souls for a bag of gold and women sold their bodies for a place to sleep.  Angel expects nothing from men but betrayal. Sold into prostitution as a child, she survives by keeping her hatred alive. And what she hates most are the men who use her, leaving her empty and dead inside. Then she meets Michael Hosea. A man who seeks his Father’s heart in everything, Michael Hosea obeys God’s call to marry Angel and to love her unconditionally. Slowly, day by day, he defies Angel’s every bitter expectation until, despite her resistance her frozen heart begins to thaw. But with her unexpected softening come overwhelming feelings of unworthiness and fear. And so Angel runs. Back to the darkness, away from her husband’s pursuing love, terrified of the truth she can no longer deny: Her final healing must come from the One who loves her even more than Michael Hosea does…the One who will never let her go.  A life-changing story of God’s unconditional, redemptive, all-consuming love.

Taken from http://francinerivers.com/books/redeeming-love

I really enjoyed this book and the twists and turns it took.  This book was at times heart wrenching and heart warming.  The story of Hosea in the Bible, his relationship with the Lord and willingness to follow the Lord's direction for his life.

The Bible says referencing Hosea 1:2 "Go, marry a promiscuous woman and have children with her, for like an adulterous wife this land is guilty of unfaithfulness to the Lord.”  In following the direction of the Lord Michael marries "Angel" who in the Bible can be compared to Hosea's wife Gomer.

This book explores the depths of love and faith in the Lord.  This book is the first book to kick off my blog because it was actually the first book I read in my pursuit of glorifying the Lord in all I do and surrounding myself in his word.  This for me includes books as well because I love to read.
